Finding the #polesofinconvenience

The flag off on this morning was fun, could really feel the energy in the field! The drive started via golden fields, ready to be harvested, and we stopped and took some aerial shots off our drone camera. We stopped for lunch on the turquoise blue waters of Lake Mondsee, savoring local food, before carrying on to Lake Bled where we were booked to spend the night. And somewhere along the way we passed the longest tunnel we have driven through, 7.8kms long!

This region is deeply connected to Nikola Tesla, especially Zagreb, which is just a bit further along. Sorry to have missed stopping in the city as it proudly pays homage to Tesla’s legacy through numerous monuments, art installations, and a remarkable museum dedicated to his name.

The technical museum, named after Nikola Tesla, contains within it the wonders of his work. The museum showcases Tesla’s inventions, including the iconic Tesla coil. Interestingly enough, it also celebrates the remarkable contributions of Croatian women in the fields of science and technology. Would have been nice to have a moment there, us desis and them videsis, separated by gulfs of time yet still pushing the limits of social norms in our own little ways.

My reflectiins on Tesla got me thinking what a truly vast spectrum autism really is. Seeing how someone like Nikola Tesla, considered to be autistic, changed the course of history itself, whose discoveries still boggle the minds of scientists today, made me question why we as a society are still unable to come to terms in accepting autism as a unique diversity of abilities, instead of creating a disabling environment.

If one of the world’s most brilliant inventors excelled being autistic, then could there be an untapped spectrum within every individual, with autism and otherwise, wherein lie unique abilities waiting to be recognized and valued. The power that a shift in a perception holds!

#inclusiveduniyaThank you to @tatapunchofficial, @indianoilcorp and @goibibo for supporting our participation in @polesofinconvenience and exploring inclusion ideas from across the world This year is the most exciting of recent years. Less than two weeks to go before I leave for the UK, where two friends will join me in early July as we embark on the mother of all roadtrips. We will be driving across 30 countries over an 8 week period, in a bid to shine a light on causes we care about! Needless to say, I will be using this time to reflect on the makings of a truly inclusive world.
